That is not good. Uninstall Norton, I am surprised you haven’t run into any problems already. Usually only large corporations feel the need to have the extra protection of multiple virus protection with different scan engines but they use special programs which integrate a few scan engines into the same application and scan using each engine one at a time. I believe Microsoft Forefront Corporate edition can do this, but as for personal use one is enough and installing more than that will slow down your computer and cause detection errors and conflicts.

Having two simultaneously running antivirus will cause a problem. But if you deactivated one, or maintain only at most one antivirus running, then that shouldn’t be a major problem. Aside from wasting your PC’s performance, and memory, the two software may compete against each other during file monitoring/scanning.

regardless of what the children say AVG is one of the internets biggest problems along with people suggesting it it has a poor detection rate poor removal rate and is easily taken over by virus’s…Norton 2009 has had a great reception among the professional computer security experts so remove the junk AVG keep the NORTON and enjoy your secure surfing environment

  • Don says:

No you cant. They will see each other as threat. Uninstall either one. Furthermore they it up your computer resources and slow down your PC.
But you can have more than one anti spyware in your computer. I found a review on best free anti spyware http://thecooltools.blogspot.com/2009/05…

  • __A_YAHO says:

NO! NEVER HAVE 2 ANTI VIRUS PROGRAMS! get rid of norton as the one will read the other as a virus itself! important! can screw up you settings! eliminate norton, add/remove programs/uninstall norton. the reviews are poor as of late for norton anyway… any more questions you can check out http://www.downloads.com or http://www.pctools.com.. good luck! 1 program is good enough!

  • Big Lance! says:

Sure. Avg and norton aren’t scanners, they are anti viruses. Two anti viruses at the same time don’t make the protection better, it makes a problem. So, I suggest deleting both of them and installing Avast Home(If not professional, which is paid and home is free).Only avast, not combining it with other.

  • __A_YAHO says:

it is strongly recommended to use only one antivirus at a time. 2 antivirus software can cause conflict and even detect each other as virus.
u r using 2, hoping for better protection. well, this is not the right way.
one thing is clear that one antivirus cant protect 100%. use one decent antivirus with antispy and scan your pc with online virus scanner twice a month if u r a heavy internet user. at least u can get rid of the infection without installing another antivirus.http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/onlin…

  • Dolby says:

No I Don’t Think So. I Think That It Is Even Nice To Have Those Antiviruses Working Together Because AVG Has Nice OnlineSecurityy And Norton Nice Protection From Viruses That are Already In Computer With The Special Option And Amazing Experience Of Healing Virused Files. And If You Have One Antivirus Installed There Is 20% Chance That You Can Be Infected With Virus And If You Have Two Ore More Antivirus Installed There Is Only 2-5% Chance To Be Infected So I Recommend To Keep Both Of Antivirus Installed.
    Hope Helped :)

  • Ratmach says:

Having more than one anti-virus program will slow down your computer. The 2 programs will both conflict with one another and cause your computer to slow down.
You would probably get infected more often than keep from getting infected.

  • Belgaria says:

You can have only one, running both will crush your system cause they will conflict. You can have manny anti spyware but only one AV

  • misca c2005 says:

+Having two AV’s on one computer is NEVER a good idea. It will cause conflicts on your computer and reduce its efficiency. You can have more than one antispyware program, but should not have more than one AV.

  • Daryl S says:

They can co-exist if you operate them manually.. However if they run automatically they will contrast each other and put your computer at risk

  • Stone says:

No. Always keep one antivirus software. Delete norton.

  • Y@hOO!! Answer!ng M@(h!ne!!!! says:

You should only have one antivirus keep avg and uninstall norton is a memory hog uninstall by the removal tool.

  • Corb says:

YES! I would recommend uninstalling Norton and leaving AVG. They will more than likely conflict each other.

  • Eat Mor PB&J says:

Yes, they can conflict with each other and the net result is that neither will work effectively. Try running one at a time and pick which one works best for you.

  • Alan1205 says:

It would cause problems as they will more than likely conflict.

  • Goody says:

It can. I suggest you uninstall Norton.

  • Guilty Spark says:

no, just makes you computer even slower.

  • warble says:

Nope, it would conflict with each other while using Real-Time scanning.

  • PV says:

    You’d better not !

  • Charles says:

no they conflict with each other

  • imavirgo says:

dude…. both of them will collide and wont work good…….
