Read the full story »I have a Compaq Presario 2200 laptop, bought about a year-and-a-half ago. I recently attempted to install an HP F380 scanner/printer/copier. Not only did it not work, but it screwed up my computer’s performance (everything loaded at a snail’s pace). Did I do something wrong or is my computer too old to be compatible with this kind of printer?

I’m sorry another answerer had a problem with HP. I happened to have had a very satisfying experience with HP support — HP responded to my e-mail in an hour, gave me a fix, and sent a followup to make sure it worked o.k.
I strongly advise you to contact HP support and send an e-mail. Try to keep your e-mail as “to the point.” Give the name and model of PC, size of HD, amount of RAM, and printer model and ask HP if they are compatible.
I have to say though, from experience, whenever I have purchased anything, the item specified system requirements.
My problem arose after I downloaded IE7, but HP was aware of the bug and had a fix prepared. With luck, this may be your problem and HP will have a fix for you.

try to rest ur PC to an earlier time “before installing the printer”
after that just plug the cable to ur PC and it will ask for the CD put in …..next…next ….and u all set up

If you’re running XP, do a System Restore to the day before you tried installing the printer:
Start–>All Programs–>Accessories–>System Tools–>System Restore…

Its not all your fault, HP software from my experience, is a big pile of junk, slows down the PC so much, I class them in the same league as Norton, they install so much to do something so simple.
Go to “start”, “program” accessories and system tools, then system restore. Restore the computer to a previous time. I would not try to install the printer. You can however, go to the “Compaq” website. They may have a free download to make it compatable with your laptop.
Firstly, you should contact the company of your computer and your printer.
Secondly, it’s probably because your computers version is older than the printers and it can not seem to function it’s PC system with the printers settings. In other words, the hardware is having problems.
Anyways, these kind of problems are common in computers but still that’s not the main problem.
It’s probably because your computer’s memory space isn’t as much as the memory spaces of compiuters are now. So when you installed the printed, a whole lot of memory space was taken up which corrupts files and they get stuck when downloading. That’s probably the reason why your computer’s working at a snail’s pace and why the printer isn’t working at all. You should uninstall the printer if you haven’t already and call the company that you bought it from. They will tell you the procedure to install it pretty precisly.
Thirdly, do you have a virus protection system. You should get one because there might be a triggered virus from the new installation of the printer. Viruses and cookies also make your computer work slow.
