Hi there.
Well I ahve a Dell computer, and I was given an HP scanner…. I have the disk and everything to install it, so I installed the software or whatever,. and now when I click to scan it says it cannot detect a scanner….
Any ideas? I tried switching adapters because I have a couple different ones..thanks

Go to the control panel and select scanners and cameras. You should see the scanner you installed there. On this screen you have an add an imagining device selection which if you do not see it add it.. With your device plugged in then add it on this screen. If it does not then you go to your device manager and see if the PCI interface is working. Since most scanners do not have an on/off button make sure that you have power. You should have a green light on the scanner. Verify that the scanner listed is the one you have. Some software has more than one and not always the right one gets installed.

Do not keep the scanner connected while installing the software; only connect the scanner when the directions say to do so. Be sure that the scanner has power, and that the USB cable is properly connected. Also be sure that the USB port is a good one (I nearly went nuts recently trying to install a peripheral before discovering that the USB port I was trying to use was dead!). You will probably need to reboot after installing the software, with the scanner connected properly, before it can be detected. You can go to HP’s web site to get the latest driver for your particular printer.
    Good luck!

I have dealt with these issues in my carrer at DELL all the time simple…go to device manager…look for a category USB root hub right clicl go to properties and uncheck the option allow yjhis device to save power …click ok again right click on USB 2.0 enhanced root hub and disable it restart the cpmputer and check.

You probably need to install the twain drivers. ~
